How to Upgrade Your Oral Hygiene Routine

by Saddle Rock Dental | Jan 1, 2021 | Oral Health

How to Upgrade Your Oral Hygiene Routine

A new year is upon us again and you’ve probably got the itch to upgrade your life. Maybe you’re considering prioritizing self care, or investing more time in activities that bring you joy, or maybe you have new goals to exercise more or learn a new skill, maybe you’re aiming for a promotion or new job. Why not upgrade your oral hygiene routine so you can enjoy your brightest, healthiest smile as well? Here are some ideas on how to upgrade your dental care.

Get a Fresh Toothbrush

Can you remember the last time you changed your toothbrush? Many of us don’t change our toothbrushes every 3 to 4 months, but that’s how often dentists and the American Dental Association (ADA) recommend they be changed for optimum effectiveness (sooner if the bristles become frayed). Worn out bristles can be tougher on your gums, leading to premature gum issues like inflammation and recession.

Try an Electric Toothbrush

If you want to try for an extra way to upgrade your oral hygiene routine, you can also opt for an electric toothbrush. There are many options available with helpful features like built in 2 minute timers to remind you how long you should brush for, or apps that help you improve your brushing effectiveness. They can also be more effective at removing plaque and helpful for people with dental appliances or limited mobility.

Try a New Toothpaste

Are you using a toothpaste that best matches your needs? There are so many options available now, from whitening, to sensitivity toothpastes, to natural, and different flavors than the traditional mint. It’s always a good idea to read the ingredients first to make sure there’s nothing you’re allergic to. Make sure any toothpaste you try is recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA) and contains fluoride.

Make an Appointment With Your Dentist

If you haven’t seen your dentist in the last 6 months, now is a great time to make an appointment for a cleaning and exam. It will also be a great chance for you to bring up any questions you might have about how you might upgrade your oral hygiene routine through options like whitening or corrective treatments.

Smile More

Another simple but great way to upgrade your oral hygiene routine is to smile more! The more you smile, the more you’ll get to enjoy the results of your work, and the more you enjoy smiling, the more you’ll be encouraged to upgrade your oral hygiene routine to keep it healthy and bright!

Call our Centennial Dental Office to make an appointment with a dentist who may be able to help you find out more about this topic, and improve your oral health.
